2015 Sacred Burro & 2014 Bassetti Vineyard Syrah


Winemaker Anthony's Introduction to These Special Wines

The Sacred Burro has developed a cult following among the Krewe Comus over the last few years since it offers a rare combination of immediate drinking pleasure and the potential to cellar for at least a decade. Though we didn't think it could get any better, this 2015 version of our 100% Carignan may be the most intense and sophisticated one yet. 

The Syrah from Bassetti Vineyard has consistently been a major component of the Dirt Worshipper, but it's always a little painful to blend it away. In 2014 we were lucky enough to harvest a small block from the Bassetti Vineyard that only sets fruit in 1 out of every 5 vintages. This block provides the most concentrated and wild version of Syrah we’ve ever tasted and we just couldn’t pass up the opportunity to bottle it on its own. 

We only bottled about 100 cases of each of these wines, so there's not much to go around. If you're interested in picking up a few bottles, be sure to place your order now as they will not be included in the Spring Club Selection.

T A S T I N G   N O T E S 

2015 Sacred Burro
100% Carignan from vines planted in 2008 directly behind the winery. The nose is a bouquet of light florals and mulberry fruit. With a little breathing time, a rich aroma of damp earth after a first rain emerges. On the palate there are flavors of currant, dark chocolate and aged chorizo. The texture is velvety and dense with great length and freshness coming through on the finish. Fermented 50% Whole Cluster, Aged for 20 months in French Oak Puncheons 50% new. 105 cases produced.

2014 Bassetti Vineyard Syrah
Insanely dark in color, this beastly wine exhibits powerful aromas of Kalamata tapenade, cured meats, violets and white pepper. The palate is both silky and powerful at the same time, offering dense notes of blackberry and seared game. The finish is intense and long as the flavors drive on for a solid minute.  Fermented 100% Whole Cluster. Aged for 22 months in used French oak barrels. 98 cases produced.
