I'm writing to let you know how much we appreciate the overwhelming response to our 2012 spring release wines. As there is great diversity in this line-up of new wines, we have received many questions about them. If you’d like in-depth tasting notes, you will find them here. I also want to take this opportunity to share with you why these wines excite me.
The 2009 vintage was moderate, which provided consistent ripening in the vineyard. A late season rain prolonged the harvest and allowed us to gain more volume from the wines without losing their vibrancy. The 2009 Mother of Exiles is a very powerful wine, yet maintains its freshness. It shows the delicious character of the 2008 Mother of Exiles, but with more elegance.
The 2010 vintage was very cold. This allowed us to hang fruit on the vine for as long as we’d like without the risk of it getting over-ripe. The resulting wines have huge aromatic intensity and great structure. This is probably my favorite vintage to date. The 2010 Zinfandel is almost electric in its profile; exhibiting exacting fruit and briary aromatics with a seamless finish. The 2010 Grenache shows more of the power of the vintage as it contrasts savory and fruit notes all while delivering a huge chewy richness.
I believe that wines are like people. Without challenges, setbacks and imperfections they are boring. The 2011 vintage in Paso Robles provided such adversity, and the wines are full of character and personality. The 2011 Theresa exhibits this vintage beautifully with a suspenseful balance between rich and lean.
If you have any questions about the spring release wines, we'd love to hear from you.
