2016 Wines receive top ratings from Vinous

"Winemaker Anthony Yount walked me through these 2016s, which provide compelling evidence that he’s succeeding in his aim to move the Denner wines toward greater detail and finesse “without sacrificing the flavor intensity” for which Paso Robles has become known. Attention and care in farming is the biggest factor, he told me, “because you can try all you want to make an elegant wine, but it doesn’t mean anything if you...  Continue »

Josh Raynolds on Anthony Yount and the 2010, 2011 and 2012 vintages

"Anthony Yount is yet another example of a young Paso winemaker who has set his sights on producing wines that exhibit the region's fruit intensity while striving to rein in its excesses. That's easier said than done, he pointed out, 'as our customers have come to expect power and depth in our wines. It's risky to pull a 180 and throw away your playbook, so it's more about fine-tuning the style carefully than an abrupt about-face — more evolution than revolution'"  Continue »

Jeb Dunnuck from Wine Advocate visits Denner Vineyards

Denner Vineyards recently hosted Jeb Dunnuck from Wine Advocate for a tasting through of the 2010, 2011 and 2012 (barrel samples) vintages. Jeb's overall view of the tastings: This was a beautiful lineup of wines by winemaker Anthony Yount and I continue to be impressed with the wines of this estate. Located on the western edge of Paso Robles, the wines possess individual, unique characters that show not only Paso fruit but balance and restraint. They’re highly recommended.  Continue »

Antonio Galloni of Vinous

"Anthony Yount is without question one of the most thoughtful and introspective winemakers in Paso Robles. Young is among those trying to add dimensions of finesse to his wines, and he is succeeding big time. This is a fabulous set of 2011s, but it’s just the start for a winemaker who has a brilliant career ahead of him. Denner is one of the elite estates in Paso Robles. I can't recommend these wines highly enough." - Antonio Galloni  Continue »

International Wine Report - Denner Vineyards 2010 Dirt Worshipper #16 on Top 50 wines of 2012

2012 TOP 50 WINES - Rank #16 IWR Tasting Notes: The 2010 Denner 'The Dirt Worshipper' reminds me of a mix of Northern Rhone terroir and California fruit. It offers a generous serving of dark berries, sweet plum, cherry cobbler, violets, but then you get some salty black olives and irony mineral notes. Dense and focused...  Continue »

Celebrated Living, Fall 2012

William Kissel explores why Rhone wines are so successful along the central coast. To quote he say, "What makes Rhone wines so enticing to both American winemakers and drinkers alike are the subtle flavors and nuances that enhance, rather than overwhelm, the food-pairing experience."  Continue »

Wine Advocate #202 - August 2012

"Most of the wines I tasted on this trip were 2010s. Interestingly, the heat spikes that were such a problem in other parts of the Central Coast were much less of an issue in Paso Robles, probably because most of the main varieties ripen on the late side. I find much to admire in the 2010s." - Antonio Galloni  Continue »
